"I'm looking forward to music time with the Children's Symphony" Pocheon City introduces the nation's first tablet-based creative music class..Provide new educational opportunities for remote students

Amid growing interest in enhancing students' creativity and sensitivity in recent school arts and sports classes, the creative convergence music program "Godong Symphony," which is being piloted at Yeongbuk Elementary School and Dopyeong Elementary School in Pocheon City, is receiving great response from students, teachers and parents.

The "Godongdong Symphony," introduced by Pocheon City to the educational field this time, is the first music content in the country to use tablets as an auxiliary textbook, and consists of an experiential class in which students create their own rhythms and express their own music using percussion instruments, breaking away from singing along or simply memorizing songs like in existing music classes.

Pocheon City directly checked the class demonstration of the program at the Korea Education Fair last year and introduced it as a pilot project this year after consultation with Pocheon Education Support Office and front-line schools. It is significant in that it has provided a new way of education to remote schools with a small budget, reflecting the policy proposal and budget by Kim Yong-tae's office.

In addition, the program developer also reportedly showed a willingness to cooperate by adjusting prices and optimizing the content composition so that it can be distributed with a small budget, reflecting the purpose for remote students.

Currently, programs are being operated for a total of 300 students in two schools, including Dopyeong Elementary School (49 students) and Yeongbuk Elementary School (242 students). With a budget of 10,000 won per person per semester, subject-linked learning such as rhythm creation using tablets and percussion instruments, performance activities, beat, stress, and music formats is being conducted.

An elementary school student who participated in the class said, "To learn the instrument, you need to know the name of the note or system, and you need to learn how to make a sound, but it's so good that the teacher can easily learn it with a tablet along with a demonstration," adding, "It's fun because there are rhythm games or quizzes on the tablet."

Teachers also said, "Children's concentration is short, but this class induces interest and draws voluntary immersion," adding, "Visual materials using tablets and various musical instrument classes are effective in linking subjects, and we are also considering ways to reflect them in regular classes in the future."

In particular, considering the environment around schools where there are few arts and sports academies, the introduction of these special education programs is drawing attention in that it further strengthens the role of public education. In fact, there are many opinions in the field that students in non-urban areas need to actively utilize such high-quality creative education opportunities in schools as it is difficult to access private education infrastructure.

An official from Pocheon City said, "We plan to conduct a satisfaction survey based on the direct experiences of students, teachers, and parents, analyze the results closely and reflect them in the improvement of the program." He added, "We will reflect the voices of the school field in the policy to increase the satisfaction and effectiveness of education together."

This "Godongdong Symphony" is evaluated as a new attempt to expand the existing framework of education beyond the introduction of simple classes.

In particular, small schools in rural and fishing villages, which are prone to being alienated from music education, can provide high-quality educational content at a low cost, leading to a series of benchmarking inquiries among education officials in other regions.

Pocheon City plans to accelerate the creation of an educational environment in which creativity and sensitivity are harmonized by discovering field-oriented policies and improving educational conditions. In addition, in line with the purpose of a special educational development zone, we plan to continuously select and provide creative and experience-oriented programs that reflect the various needs of students.
